Deutsche Börse takes $200M stake in Kraken
Deutsche Börse has invested $200 million to acquire a 1.5% stake in crypto exchange Kraken, marking a major step by a traditional exchange into digital assets.
The investment, made via a secondary share purchase in Payward, the parent company of Kraken, deepens a strategic partnership first announced in December 2025.
The companies aim to integrate traditional finance with crypto markets, covering areas such as trading, custody, settlement and tokenised assets for institutional clients.
Deutsche Börse said the move supports its strategy to build a hybrid market infrastructure that combines traditional securities and blockchain-based assets within a unified liquidity pool.
The partnership positions both firms to capture growing institutional demand for regulated crypto exposure, particularly as Europe’s MiCA framework drives adoption.
Kraken, one of the largest global crypto exchanges, has been expanding its institutional offering and is reportedly preparing for a potential public listing.
The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval, highlighting continued convergence between traditional finance and digital asset markets.
