DATA Network moves to Sui with $30 million investment
- Sui Foundation will invest $30 million in DATA Network as it migrates to Sui.
- DATA Network will retire its independent blockchain, while its DATA token migrates at a 1:1 ratio.
- Walrus will become the default storage layer for DATA Foundation applications, supporting access-controlled AI training data.
Sui Foundation will invest $30 million in DATA Network as the project moves its protocol onto Sui (SUI) and retires its independent blockchain.
The migration also brings Trace, DATA Foundation’s onchain registry for rights-cleared AI training data, into the Sui ecosystem.
“ This is the right home for the network we built, and I am looking forward to helping Sui make it the data layer for AI,” according to SY Lee, Chairman of Poseidon and CEO of PIP Labs.
The investment gives Sui Foundation the largest institutional stake in DATA Network, alongside existing holdings held by PIP Labs and DATA Foundation.
The DATA token will carry over to Sui at a 1:1 ratio, with holder economics and governance rights at least equivalent to current terms.
Walrus will become the default storage layer for DATA Foundation applications, storing encrypted reference copies of contributed files with access limited to licensed buyers.
Trace has registered more than 250 million data contributions since launching in June 2026 and now processes over three million receipts daily on average.
The existing DATA Network will continue operating until the upgrade is complete, with the detailed migration timeline and holder transition plan still to be published.
