Crypto PACs back primary winners across states
Candidates backed by cryptocurrency industry-funded political action committees secured a series of primary victories across California, New Jersey and South Dakota after receiving support through roughly $3.5 million in advertising campaigns.
Democrats Jacqui Irwin, Ted Lieu, Zoe Lofgren, Dave Min, Mike McGuire, Hilda Solis, George Whitesides, Lou Correa and Lateefah Simon won California primaries, while Democrat Rob Menendez and Republican Mike Rounds also secured victories in New Jersey and South Dakota respectively.
“America needs members of Congress who will act to lay out responsible guardrails for the community to maintain our global leadership,”
Said Fairshake spokesperson, Geoff Vetter.
The advertising was funded by Protect Progress and Defend American Jobs, two political action committees affiliated with Fairshake, which is backed by major crypto industry players including Coinbase and Ripple and reported holding $193 million in available funds in January.
The latest victories follow similar crypto-backed spending in Texas runoff primaries, where several candidates supportive of digital asset legislation advanced after receiving support from Fairshake-affiliated groups.
Industry advocacy efforts also expanded with the launch of Defend Developers, a new hybrid PAC focused on supporting lawmakers who champion legal protections for software developers and crypto builders.
“For too long, developers building decentralised technologies have faced regulatory uncertainty and enforcement actions instead of clear rules and guidelines,”
Said Defend Developers founder, Gavin Zavatone.
