Coinbase opens US stock trading
Coinbase has opened commission-free stock and exchange-traded fund trading to all US users, enabling customers to buy and sell roughly 6,000 equities alongside crypto within the same app on a 24/5 basis with instant funding in USD or USD Coin.
The exchange said thousands of stocks are now available around the clock during the trading week, with support for fractional shares and plans to expand the number of listed securities in the coming weeks.
“The everything exchange is growing,”
Said Coinbase chief executive Brian Armstrong in a post on X.
Coinbase also said it intends to introduce stock perpetual futures for non-US users through Coinbase Bermuda Ltd., subject to regulatory approval, and plans to offer tokenised equities in the future as part of its broader multi-asset expansion.
The announcement follows the company’s nationwide rollout of prediction markets through a partnership with Kalshi and comes amid rising interest in tokenised equities across crypto and traditional finance.
In recent months, platforms including Kraken and Robinhood have expanded tokenised stock offerings, while exchanges such as Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange have signalled plans to develop blockchain-based trading infrastructure supporting extended hours and instant settlement.
