
Coinbase adds former xAI CFO to board
- Coinbase appointed Anthony Armstrong to its board of directors on September 1.
- Armstrong joins the Audit and Compliance Committee, expanding Coinbase’s board from nine to 10 members.
- His appointment comes as Coinbase expands beyond crypto trading into a broader financial services platform.
Coinbase appointed Anthony Armstrong to its board after a recommendation from its governance committee.
Armstrong will also serve on the Audit and Compliance Committee, according to Coinbase’s latest US Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
Coinbase said, “Anthony has had a consistent focus on building things that work at scale, without waste,” in a company blog post.
Armstrong spent nearly a decade at Morgan Stanley before becoming a senior adviser at the Department of Government Efficiency.
He later served as chief financial officer across Elon Musk’s companies, including xAI, X.AI Corp. and X Corp.
The appointment comes as Coinbase expands its business beyond crypto trading and develops its “everything exchange” strategy.
Coinbase said 88% of its latest quarterly net revenue came from sources other than Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) spot trading, while its shares closed at US$174.96 on September 2.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $77,779.88.
