Blockchain.com seeks US approval for prediction markets
- Blockchain.com has applied to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to offer event contracts and cryptocurrency derivatives to US customers.
- The applications seek designated contract market status and registration as a futures commission merchant.
- Approval would expand Blockchain.com’s US trading services as crypto companies compete to enter regulated prediction markets.
Blockchain.com has told CNBC it applied for two US regulatory licences to offer prediction markets and cryptocurrency derivatives.
The digital asset platform seeks designated contract market status and registration as a futures commission merchant from the CFTC.
“Users should be able to manage their digital assets, trade derivatives, and take positions on real-world events easily, without jumping between different apps,” Blockchain.com Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Peter Smith said in a statement.
The applications target US retail and institutional customers, extending Blockchain.com’s existing international derivatives and prediction market services.
Smith said the applications aim to bring event contracts and digital asset trading together within US regulatory frameworks.
Blockchain.com already offers prediction markets through a partnership with Polymarket and perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid to some international customers.
The company joins 11 other firms that filed for designated contract market licences in 2026, while the CFTC approved six new exchanges that year.
The initiative signals Blockchain.com’s push into regulated US prediction markets, with its entry dependent on CFTC approval.
