Block, Inc. (NYSE:XYZ) has joined the x402 Foundation and contributed Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) Lightning payments to x402.
The open standard enables AI agents and web services to pay autonomously for APIs, data and digital services.

Lightning adds a payment method designed for instant, low-cost and high-volume transactions within x402.
The x402 standard uses HTTPโs 402 Payment Required response to request payments during web transactions.
The standard operates under Linux Foundation governance and remains network and currency agnostic.
Block said Lightning support could expand Bitcoinโs role in everyday, high-volume, low-value payments.
Following the announcement, Block shares were up 2.76% at $76.74.
