Bitget CEO Gracy Chen suspects North Korean hackers behind a $351.6 million breach, citing preliminary IP links.
Investigators found IP addresses matching VPN choices associated with a DPRK hacking group.
“We’ve identified some IP addresses that match the VPN choices by a certain DPRK group,” Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said, referring to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Chen said investigators were still determining which systems were compromised and how attackers gained access.
“They did not forge user withdrawal requests, nor did they obtain our private keys of the cold wallet and any hot, warm wallet,” Chen said.
The breach affected parts of Bitget’s hot and warm wallet infrastructure, while withdrawals remained suspended.
Chen said some stolen funds were recovered as Bitget worked with blockchain foundations and other partners.
Following the update, BGB was trading down 1.9% at $1.98.
