Bit2Me launches new crypto forensics unit for authorities

  • Bit2Me has launched Bit2Shield, a separate company focused on crypto investigations, custody and asset recovery.
  • The unit will support police, courts and financial institutions with blockchain tracing, seized-asset custody and forensic reports.
  • Bit2Shield operates outside MiCA, while crypto-to-euro conversions will remain with Bit2Me’s authorised entity.

Bit2Me has launched Bit2Shield, a new company providing blockchain investigation and crypto custody services to public institutions and financial firms.

The unit will trace digital assets, support seizures, hold confiscated crypto and provide forensic reports for use in court.

“Bit2Shield is born as the technical arm at the service of judges, prosecutors, police forces and financial institutions,” said João Augusto C. Teixeira, Bit2Me Group’s founder and chief compliance officer.

Bit2Shield will also provide source-of-funds checks, expert analysis and specialist training for institutions handling digital assets.

The company is not a crypto-asset service provider, so its investigation and forensic services fall outside the European Union’s MiCA framework.

Any conversion of seized crypto into euros will instead be handled by Bitcoinforme, Bit2Me’s authorised crypto-asset service provider in Spain.

Bit2Me said Bit2Shield builds on its work with public authorities and has appointed former Guardia Civil officer Adrián Maroño as its head of investigations.
