Bank Negara Malaysia has launched SSDS+, a digital platform designed to issue and safeguard tokenised bonds and sukuk.
The system builds on Malaysia’s existing Scripless Securities Depository System and extends support to government and retail bond issuance.
“The launch of SSDS+ marks a major milestone in modernising Malaysia’s financial market infrastructure,” Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Dato’ Sri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour said in a statement.
Developed in-house, SSDS+ uses cloud and distributed ledger technologies to record digital securities ownership and transfers.
The platform integrates with RENTAS+, which enables secure payments and settlement around the clock using central bank money.
SSDS+ manages securities records, while RENTAS+ handles the corresponding payments for bond purchases, separating the two functions within connected systems.
The launch forms part of Malaysia’s broader move towards digital financial infrastructure, supporting new ways to issue and manage securities.
The initiative marks a step towards more digitally enabled bond markets, with potential applications across wholesale, government and retail securities.
