Armstrong says CLARITY Act would protect crypto users
- Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong urged US senators to support the CLARITY Act.
- Armstrong said the bill could protect consumers and reduce future regulatory uncertainty.
- The Senate is scheduled to consider a procedural vote on the bill on 15 September.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong urged US senators to support the CLARITY Act during an August 20 interview.
Armstrong said clearer laws could protect crypto users and give authorities more tools against illegal activity.
“The current status quo today is that there isn’t much clarity about what the rules are,” Armstrong told CBS.
He said the bill could also provide clearer rules for stablecoin rewards, crypto fundraising and other consumer products.
The House passed its version of the CLARITY Act by 294 votes to 134 in July 2025.
The Senate Banking Committee later advanced the bill by 15 votes to nine, but lawmakers still face several disagreements.
The Senate needs 60 votes to begin debate, while Armstrong expects more than 60 senators to support the motion.
