Argentina adopts crypto reporting rules for 2029
- Argentina has agreed to implement the OECD’s Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework by 2029.
- The framework requires crypto providers to report user and transaction data to tax authorities.
- Argentina could start collecting the data in 2028 before international exchanges begin in 2029.
Argentina has agreed to adopt the OECD’s Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework by 2029.
The framework now covers 77 jurisdictions that plan to exchange crypto data from 2029.
“It will help ensure that Argentina’s tax authorities are equipped with the information they need on transactions in crypto-assets taking place abroad,” said Global Forum Chair Gaël Perraud.
CARF covers user identification, crypto purchases, sales, exchanges, payments and external transfers.
Argentina must first create local rules for crypto service providers, with data collection potentially starting in 2028.
The system will allow tax authorities to receive information about crypto transactions conducted across borders.
Argentina’s move adds another country to a global system for sharing crypto transaction information.
