Anchorpoint Financial, the Standard Chartered-led stablecoin venture, plans a retail product but has not confirmed a launch date, according to the South China Morning Post.
Its Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin, HKDAP, began institutional rollout in August 2026 as the company prepares for wider adoption.
“Our next major milestone is to [help] bring regulated digital money into everyday payments and commercial applications, while connecting traditional payment infrastructure with this emerging digital finance,” Anchorpoint Chief Executive Officer Dominic Maffei said in a statement.
Anchorpoint was formed by Standard Chartered, Animoca Brands and HKT after the partners participated in Hong Kong’s stablecoin issuer sandbox in July 2024.
“This is a public blockchain stablecoin, so applying this to retail, a lot of considerations need to be made,” Maffei said.
Hong Kong’s Stablecoins Ordinance provides the regulatory framework for licensed issuers entering the market.
HSBC Holdings plc (LSE:HSBA) launched its Hong Kong dollar-backed RedCoin (RCHKD) on 23 October, making it available to more than 3.3 million PayMe users.
Hong Kong’s regulated stablecoin market is expanding as issuers prepare products for institutional and retail payments.
