  • Abstract will wind down its Ethereum layer 2 network on 15 December 2026.
  • The chain had more than 144 apps and over 400,000 users.
  • Abstract cited thin liquidity, limited DeFi and institutional crossover as growth constraints.

Abstract will shut down its Ethereum layer 2 network on 15 December 2026.

The consumer-focused chain had deployed more than 144 apps and onboarded over 400,000 users.

“After extensive deliberation, we agreed that the best path forward was to wind down the chain,” Abstract said in a post on X.

Abstract attributed stagnant growth to restricted DeFi, thin liquidity and limited institutional crossover.

The project also cited a smaller budget than competitors and difficulties finding product-market fit.

Users must migrate their assets before 15 December, or they risk losing access.

Igloo had funded Abstract for 18 months, while CEO Luca Netz said the company lost tens of millions of dollars over two years.

The shutdown ends Abstract’s standalone layer 2 network and closes its consumer-focused blockchain strategy.
