Aave outlines year-long security plan for V4

Aave Labs has outlined a year-long security framework for the upcoming Aave V4 lending protocol, describing extensive audits and testing conducted before launch.

The organisation said the programme included roughly 345 cumulative days of security reviews, supported by a $1.5 million budget approved by the Aave DAO.

The security process began in March 2025 when formal verification firm Certora joined developers to help design a verification framework for the protocol.

Between September and November 2025, audit firms including Chainsecurity, Trail of Bits and Blackthorn conducted manual code reviews and invariant testing.

A public security contest later ran on the Sherlock platform, where more than 900 participants submitted over 950 findings while reviewing the protocol’s code.

According to Aave Labs, none of the submissions identified critical or high-severity vulnerabilities, with most findings deemed invalid.

The company said Aave V4 uses a redesigned hub-and-spoke architecture that reduces the size of the codebase and limits potential attack surfaces.

Aave Labs plans to continue formal verification, layered audits and a standing bug bounty programme as development continues.

At the time of reporting, Aave price was $117.62.
