Andreessen Horowitz, known as a16z, moved 25,560 Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) valued at approximately US$42.62 million from Binance to an external wallet on June 24, highlighting a notable institutional transaction during a period of weakness for Ethereum prices.
The transfer was identified by blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain and occurred while Ethereum traded near US$1,670, compared with its all-time high of US$4,946.
“A wallet linked to #a16z withdrew 25,560 $ETH($42.62M) from #Binance 9 hours ago,” said Lookonchain in a social media post.
According to Lookonchain, large transfers from centralised exchanges to self-custody wallets are often viewed by market participants as a sign of accumulation because they reduce the amount of cryptocurrency immediately available for sale on exchange order books.
The transaction comes as Ethereum has faced sustained pressure from weaker institutional demand and fund outflows, while a16z continues to maintain exposure to digital assets through multiple blockchain investments, and following the announcement the Andreessen Horowitz share price was unchanged at N/A because the firm is privately held.
In May, blockchain data tracked by Lookonchain showed that a16z crypto held a position worth about US$192 million in Hyperliquid’s Hyperliquid (CRYPTO:HYPE) token, making it one of the asset’s largest external holders.
Analysts have cautioned that large blockchain transfers can reflect portfolio management, treasury operations or fund mandate requirements rather than a directional market view, meaning the latest Ethereum withdrawal may not necessarily indicate a broader buying programme.
At the time of reporting, Ethereum price was $1,613.70.
