A survey found 77% of Americans see cryptocurrency in workplace retirement plans as risky, including 46% who call it very risky.
The survey also found 53% oppose employers offering crypto as an investment option in workplace retirement plans.
The National Institute on Retirement Security commissioned the survey, which covered 1,203 Americans aged 25 and older.
The survey found 80% of respondents believe the US faces a retirement crisis, up from 67% in 2020.
It also found 68% said preparing for retirement is becoming harder, while 77% said debt limits their ability to save.
The findings come as US officials consider wider access to alternative assets, including crypto, through 401(k) plans.
The Labor Department proposed rules in March 2026 covering alternative assets, while some lawmakers have called for the plan to be withdrawn.
