Sydney-based xReality Group (ASX:XRG) completed a high-stakes, 20-month subcontract for the US Department of Defence.

Valued at $5.6 million, the project was delivered by XRG’s subsidiary, Operator XR, through a partnership with Endurance Group.

The initiative focused on developing a cutting-edge immersive training capability, and the company confirmed that all milestones were met on time and within budget.

The achievement is further underscored by the formal acceptance and validation of the prototype by end-users, with outstanding payments of $0.85 million expected to be settled before the end of the financial year.

The completion of this R&D contract has directly paved the way for the commercialisation of MR-1, Operator XR’s next-generation mixed-reality training system.

Unlike traditional virtual reality, the MR-1 integrates high-fidelity headsets with realistic training weapons and an offline-capable software architecture.

This allows personnel to overlay virtual characters and effects onto real-world environments, such as schools or military bases, providing a highly flexible solution for complex, high-threat scenario training.

XRG has already secured its first commercial sale of the MR-1 to a separate US DoD customer.

CEO Wayne Jones noted that the successful delivery of this ambitious project validates the company's technical prowess and its ability to meet aggressive timelines.
