Woodside Energy (ASX:WDS) has awarded a services contract valued at more than US$300 million to Green Tug Towing.

The agreement covers the design, construction, and long-term operation of four specialised tugboats destined for the company's liquefied natural gas terminal in Louisiana.

The partnership with Green Tug—a joint venture between Harbor Docking & Towing and Saltchuk Marine—underscores Woodside’s development timeline, with the contract pushing the energy giant’s total commitments for the Louisiana project past the $1 billion mark.

The vessels are slated for construction at the C&C Marine and Repair facility in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.

According to Woodside’s announcement, the project is scheduled to break ground later this year, with a formal delivery date anticipated for 2028.

Once operational, the fleet will provide critical towing and escort services under a 20-year term, ensuring long-term stability for the terminal’s maritime logistics.

Beyond the industrial impact, the contract serves as a massive catalyst for regional employment.

The company confirmed that the initiative is expected to support approximately 70 direct local jobs, alongside 30 indirect positions and 60 temporary roles during the peak of construction.

By securing local labour and domestic shipyards, Woodside aims to strengthen the regional supply chain while fortifying the infrastructure necessary to meet global LNG demand.
