  • Viva Energy achieved a Geelong Refining Margin of US$21.4 per barrel for the third quarter of 2026, up 110% year-on-year.
  • The company's share price fell 2.3% to $2.97 following the operational update.
  • Strong regional refining conditions and robust commercial demand helped offset one-off hedging losses and ongoing fire recovery impacts.

Viva Energy (ASX:VEA) delivered a sharp increase in refining margins for the third quarter of 2026 as recovery efforts continued at its Geelong refinery.

The realised Geelong Refining Margin surged 110% to US$2.14 per barrel compared with US$10.2 per barrel in the prior corresponding period, while refining intake rose 5.2% to 9.1 million barrels.

Performance across the quarter was partially offset by US$18.5 million in one-off hedging losses, elevated crude premia, and ongoing operational constraints linked to an alkylation unit fire in April 2026.

Total group sales volumes reached 4,205 million litres during the period while convenience sales grew 3.8% to $407 million.

Following the announcement, the Viva Energy share price was down at $2.97.

The company stated that the completion of its Western Australia distribution facility will allow it to exit the Coles Product Supply Agreement by late November.

Viva Energy continues to work with insurers on property damage and business interruption claims relating to the Geelong refinery fire.
