US Faces Growing Measles Challenge

Dr. Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease expert at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, says falling vaccination rates have fueled the resurgence of measles in the US and warns the country has effectively lost its ability to control the disease, making higher immunization rates essential to restoring community protection. He also says public health funding cuts are weakening the nation's ability to respond quickly to foodborne outbreaks such as cyclospora, increasing risks for consumers and health agencies.
