  • Telstra CEO Vicki Brady issued a formal apology following a major nationwide network outage that disrupted critical services across Australia.
  • The infrastructure failure disrupted business payment channels, transport networks, and emergency service connectivity while the corporate leader was on holiday overseas.
  • The telecommunications company attributed the interruption to core server issues within its primary data facilities and has initiated an active investigation into the software defect.

Telstra (ASX:TLS) CEO Vicki Brady issued a public apology to customers on July 10 following a nationwide network failure that disrupted critical Australian infrastructure earlier this week.

The widespread operational disruption contrasted with recent stable performances and came after a major software defect took down mobile services and rail networks across multiple states.

"We have let our customers and Australians down, and for that I am deeply sorry," said Telstra CEO Vicki Brady.

The secondary impacts of the connection failure included the total disruption of commercial retail payment structures, urban transport networks, and the temporary inability of some regional citizens to contact emergency services.

The company stated that normal operations have resumed, but an internal technical investigation remains active to determine the precise vulnerabilities in its system monitoring.

Following the announcement the Telstra share price was down at $4.96.

The telecommunications group stated that the multi-hour technical problem originated from server connectivity issues located inside company-owned data facilities in Sydney and Melbourne.

The business confirmed that technical teams identified a specific internal software loop anomaly and found zero active evidence pointing towards an external cyberattack or malicious hacking attempt.
