Telix Pharmaceuticals (ASX:TLX) announced that the first set of patients in the United States received commercial doses of its newly approved brain cancer imaging drug.

Shares in the company jumped 4.2% to A$16.07 following the update.

The US Food and Drug Administration cleared Pixclara earlier in September as an intravenous radioactive imaging agent to help medical teams differentiate recurrent or progressive glioma from treatment-related changes.

Healthcare workers administered the initial doses at the Indiana University Health Neuroscience Centre in Indianapolis and the University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Centre.

The commercial launch introduces the only FDA-approved radiopharmaceutical imaging drug dedicated to glioma diagnostics in the US market.

Following the announcement, the Telix Pharmaceuticals share price was up at $15.89

The company stated that expanding access to commercial distribution is expected to address critical diagnostic needs for adult and paediatric brain tumour patients.
