Santos (ASX:STO) chairman Keith Spence announced his intention to retire from the board, slated for the conclusion of the company’s annual general meeting in April 2027.
Spence, who has led the oil and gas major's boardroom since 2018, confirmed that the timeline of his departure ensures the selection of a successor for long-standing chief executive Kevin Gallagher will fall under the remit of the next chairperson.
"Given the timing of my retirement and the CEO’s ongoing commitment to his role, the board expects that appointment of Santos’ next CEO will be a matter for the board and my successor," Spence stated during the annual meeting.
The announcement provides a clear three-year runway for the organisation's leadership transition, ending a decade of stability under Gallagher’s tenure, which began in early 2016.
At the time of reporting, Santos’ share price was $7.64.
