PowerPlus Energy has been awarded a $2.3 million grant by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.

Funded through the Battery Breakthrough Initiative under the "Future Made in Australia" policy, the grant supports a $6.7 million project aimed at semi-automating PPE's Melbourne facility.

The investment is set to triple the company's manufacturing capacity, enabling the production of up to 150 MWh of battery modules annually over the next two years.

PPE, in which PPK Group (ASX:PPK) holds a 75.4% interest, stands as the nation’s largest local manufacturer of battery modules for stationary storage.

The expansion is designed to fortify the domestic supply chain and provide toll manufacturing services for other local battery businesses.

By enhancing local testing and production, PPE aims to deliver specialised solutions tailored to Australian conditions—critical for sectors such as agriculture, utilities, and eco-resorts.

Executive Chairman Ben Spincer noted that the funding allows the company to remain competitive against low-cost imports while supporting thousands of domestic customers.

ARENA CEO Darren Miller emphasised that scaling such capabilities is vital for the nation's clean energy transition, ensuring that Australia not only consumes but also innovates and competes in the global battery market.
