Origin Energy and Landis+Gyr launch smart gas upgrade
Origin Energy (ASX:ORG) has partnered with global technology firm Landis+Gyr to launch a large-scale digital upgrade of its gas network.
Over the next 18 months, the initiative will deploy intelligent IoT modules, advanced communications, and a data management platform across Origin’s existing metering assets.
The digitisation effort aims to revolutionise customer service and operational efficiency for households and businesses nationwide without disrupting current LPG supplies.
By retrofitting existing metres rather than undertaking a costly, disruptive network overhaul, the project minimises infrastructure waste while delivering immediate benefits.
Customers can look forward to a highly modernised service experience featuring significantly fewer estimated bills, near real-time data insights, and the near-total elimination of manual metre readings.
Origin General Manager LPG, Amber Fennell, emphasised that the upgrade leverages cutting-edge technology to maximise existing assets and drastically improve billing timeliness and data accuracy.
Echoing this sentiment, Landis+Gyr Senior Vice President for APAC, David Maclean, noted that their smart gas solution offers utilities a rapid pathway to digitalisation, creating a flexible foundation for long-term innovation and safer installation practices.
At the time of reporting, Origin Energy’s share price was $10.76.
