Optiscan (ASX:OIL) has initiated a US-based head and neck cancer imaging study following a research agreement with Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
The clinical study evaluates the performance of the InVue and InForm imaging platforms in assessing surgical margins for patients undergoing tumour resections.
Optiscan CEO and Managing Director Dr Camile Farah said, “Despite advances in the treatment of head and neck cancers, their recurrence remains a major challenge for the many patients suffering these diseases. Through this study, we're seeking to better understand how real-time imaging can support surgical decision-making and help address an important unmet clinical need."
Patient recruitment has commenced at Mayo Clinic Rochester as part of Optiscan’s strategy to expand the addressable markets for its platforms.
Data generated from the study will be submitted for US Food and Drug Administration regulatory approvals scheduled for calendar year 2026.
Following the announcement, the Optiscan share price was unchanged at $0.155.
The medical technology firm develops microscopic imaging hardware designed to offer real-time digital pathology during surgical procedures.
The trial represents a continuation of the ongoing clinical collaboration between Optiscan and Mayo Clinic to test digital imaging across multiple cancer settings.
