Nyrada (ASX:NYR) received a notice of allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its patent application covering Xolatryp.
Subject to the payment of the standard issue fee, the upcoming patent will grant the company exclusive composition of matter intellectual property protection over Xolatryp's unique chemical structure within the US.
The patent will secure a 20-year term extending from its September 2024 filing date, protecting against the unauthorised manufacture, use, sale, or import of the drug.
Xolatryp is a novel small-molecule inhibitor of TRPC3/6/7 ion channels designed to limit excessive calcium ion entry, targeting multiple severe disease pathologies.
The drug aims to address ischemia and reperfusion injury, a critical unmet medical need with no currently approved therapies.
Nyrada has already completed a Phase I clinical trial assessing the drug’s safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics.
Moving forward, a Phase IIa clinical trial has commenced to evaluate safety and explore preliminary efficacy in patients suffering from acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.
Nyrada CEO and Managing Director James Bonnar hailed the USPTO’s decision as a significant milestone that validates the novelty and inventiveness of Xolatryp.
Bonnar emphasised that robust intellectual property protection remains fundamental to realising the drug's full commercial value and strengthens Nyrada's position as it advances clinical development.
At the time of reporting, Nyrada’s share price was $0.56.
