Noxopharm's Sofra Platform shows cancer-fighting potential

Noxopharm (ASX:NOX) announced breakthrough data demonstrating that its proprietary Sofra technology platform could be leveraged to actively fight certain types of cancer.

While initially developed to mitigate chronic inflammation in autoimmune diseases, the new research indicates the innovative platform possesses versatile applications that could effectively weaponise the human immune system against unchecked cancerous growths.

The technology, which secured US patent protection last October, is based upon short nucleic acid sequences known as oligonucleotides.

The building blocks work by significantly amplifying Toll-Like Receptor 8 activation within the body’s immune cells.

Industry studies reveal the novel mechanism boosts TLR8 activity far more effectively than rival cancer drugs currently in clinical development.

When paired with standard-of-care therapies like chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the combination approach opens up a highly potent, controllable, and targeted immune response against tumours.

In human skin biopsies, a proprietary Sofra oligonucleotide boosted the activity of a clinical-stage TLR8 agonist more than 200-fold, while animal models showed an approximate three-fold increase in TLR8 activity.

Noxopharm is currently scaling up operations to test these novel compounds in humanised TLR8 mice and diverse cancer models.

CEO Dr Olivier Laczka stated that their unique understanding of innate immune receptors provides a distinct competitive advantage.

At the time of reporting, Noxopharm’s share price was $0.086.
