NoviqTech subsidiary commences Great Barrier Reef Biochar trial

Share

NoviqTech's (ASX:NVQ) subsidiary Coralia has commenced its field and pyrolysis trial at its flagship Great Barrier Reef Biochar Project located in North Queensland.

The environmental project focuses on the harvesting, chipping, and conversion of invasive Chinese apple trees into high-quality biochar.

Designed to evaluate operational feasibility, feedstock quality, environmental performance, and long-term carbon removal pathways, the trial represents a milestone for regional ecological restoration.

The initiative establishes early monitoring, reporting, and verification systems aligned with the expectations applied by premium carbon removal registries and sophisticated institutional carbon credit buyers.

Coralia has already mobilised specialised contractors to clear land across low, medium, and high infestation areas identified via detailed aerial surveys and local stakeholder engagement.

Following harvesting, the biomass will be transported to Pyrocal’s facility in Toowoomba for multi-temperature pyrolysis testing, generating biochar samples for laboratory analysis and downstream research.

The trial's outputs will support Coralia's ongoing low-carbon concrete research programme with Swinburne University of Technology.

To guarantee international commercial credibility, trial data, chain-of-custody records, and life cycle assessment inputs are being meticulously compiled to align with Puro.earth methodology requirements, with preliminary assessment approval targeted for September.

The trial outcomes will support engagement with A Healthier Earth under a previously announced Memorandum of Understanding and guide pilot facility design work with engineering partner TFA Project Group.
