Nine Entertainment cuts 30 publishing jobs in restructure
- Nine Entertainment is cutting 30 editorial jobs across its major Australian metropolitan mastheads.
- The publisher did not disclose immediate cost savings from the editorial restructuring.
- Management is shifting resources to accelerate a digital-first strategy and adapt to changing media audiences.
Nine Entertainment (ASX:NEC) will cut 30 editorial roles across its major metropolitan newspapers to support a digital transition.
The announcement follows a separate round of 20 redundancies across Channel 9 newsrooms completed in April.
“The best way to protect our quality journalism is to ensure our organisation adapts,” said Nine Publishing Executive Tory Maguire.
The redundancies affect staff at The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Brisbane Times, and WA Today.
Following the announcement, the Nine Entertainment share price was unchanged at $1.25 as management pushed forward with operational changes.
Union representatives called for genuine consultation and requested that the business prioritise redeployment options over forced redundancies.
Management previously stated that ongoing workflow changes and technology investments require staff across all divisions to adapt.
