NH3 Clean Energy secures federal major project status
NH3 Clean Energy (ASX:NH3) achieved a regulatory milestone as its flagship WAH₂ Project was granted Federal Major Project Status by the Hon. Tim Ayres, Minister for Industry and Innovation.
The designation, awarded for a three-year term, places the ammonia venture among an elite group of fewer than 30 projects nationwide deemed to be of national strategic significance.
The status is reserved for initiatives that contribute substantially to regional development, economic growth, and Australia's broader employment landscape.
The Commonwealth's recognition provides NH3 Clean Energy with streamlined access to the Major Projects Facilitation Agency.
The agency will serve as a single point of entry to the federal government, assisting in the coordination of state and territory approvals to expedite the project’s development.
Minister Ayres noted that the decision underscores the project's potential to bolster Australia’s long-term decarbonisation objectives through low-emissions ammonia production.
Company Chairman Charles Whitfield expressed gratitude for the federal support, emphasising that WAH₂ is critical to securing Australia’s ammonia supply and meeting emission reduction targets.
The announcement follows a positive public benefits assessment and provides a clear regulatory runway as the company heads towards a final investment decision targeted for late 2026.
If successful, NH3 Clean Energy expects to begin first production by the end of 2029.
At the time of reporting, NH3 Clean Energy’s share price was $0.13.
