Newmont commences gold drilling at Junee Project
Newmont (ASX:NEM) commenced an exploration drilling campaign at the Junee joint venture project in New South Wales, targeting high-grade gold mineralisation.
The current phase of exploration is heavily focused on the highly prospective Allawah prospect, situated within exploration licence EL8470.
The technical data highlights substantial historical drilling success, notably at drill hole JNRC025.
Previous reverse circulation drilling at this specific site returned an intercept of 20m at 1.15 grammes per tonne of gold from a depth of 52m.
The zone includes a higher-grade interval of 10m at 1.84 g/t gold, which further contains an exceptionally rich pocket of 4m at 2.84 g/t gold.
Geological mapping and surface sampling outline a continuous gold-in-soil anomaly stretching over 1.5km.
Rock chip samples within this zone have returned robust surface grades of up to 1.79 g/t gold and 1.37 g/t gold.
To follow up on these encouraging surface and historical subsurface results, Newmont's programme incorporates a series of planned diamond drill holes designed to test the depth and continuity of the system.
The joint venture, which links local ASX-listed explorer Koonenberry Gold (ASX:KNB) with Newmont's global operational scale, represents a major exploration push in the region.
