The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that the number of new home loans fell 5.4% to 134,225 during the June quarter of 2026.
This quarterly decline follows a 3.4% drop recorded in the previous quarter.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics head of finance statistics Dr Mish Tan stated that lending returned to similar levels observed at the same time last year.
The total value of new home loans fell by 5.2%, or $5.4 billion, following consecutive quarters of changing lending conditions.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics stated that annual growth in the total value of home loans slowed to 6.8% compared to the June quarter of 2025.
Investor loans drove the national downturn, recording an 8.6% decrease across the quarter.
New South Wales led the regional declines with a 15.5% reduction in investor lending.
