Mali Security issues disrupt Resolute Mining production

West Africa-focused gold miner Resolute Mining (ASX:RSG) issued an operational update for its Syama Gold Mine in Mali, revealing that second-quarter production for 2026 has been hit by severe logistical and supply chain disruptions.

The setbacks stem from regional security challenges emerging in late April and May, which have compromised road safety and delayed the delivery of critical mining equipment.

Delays in receiving heavy machinery have stalled access to higher-grade sulphide ore zones within the A21 open pit.

Intermittent blasting performance and a temporary shortage of explosive supplies have forced the sulphide mill to rely heavily on lower-grade stockpiles.

Management expects Q2 production to fall below initial targets, tracking towards the lower end of its full-year guidance of 195 to 210 koz.

Resolute has deferred a planned three-week maintenance shutdown of the sulphide plant and roaster from May to mid-June, extending it by an extra week to conduct further preventative maintenance.

To stabilise operations, the company is actively collaborating with contractors to secure equipment, boosting underground development capacity, and accelerating open-pit mining to reclaim higher-grade ore.

Management remains optimistic that these mitigation actions, alongside the processing optimisation initiatives currently underway, will steadily improve plant throughput and restore operational performance for the remainder of the year as the security situation stabilises.

At the time of reporting, Resolute Mining’s share price was $1.10.
