Legacy Minerals (ASX:LGM) commenced a diamond drilling campaign at the Emu copper-gold porphyry target, located within the prominent Mt Carrington project.
The exploration initiative aims to test a region holding substantial, previously unrealised copper potential.
The site has remained untouched by drilling activity for approximately 50 years, making this current project the first modern exploration of the area in half a century.
The strategy behind the drilling campaign is heavily backed by recent geophysical advancements.
Exploration teams defined two distinct, high-priority targets utilising data collected from an airborne mobile magnetotellurics survey.
The advanced airborne technology has allowed geologists to map subsurface conductivity with high precision, identifying anomalies that strongly suggest the presence of a significant copper-gold porphyry system hidden beneath the surface.
Management views the Emu target not just as an isolated exploration site but also as a critical opportunity to substantially grow the overall Mt Carrington resource base through a brand-new discovery.
By deploying modern diamond core drilling techniques, the company will be able to extract high-quality geological samples to definitive depths, confirming the scale and grade of the mineralisation.
