KPMG barred from Commonwealth contracts in major federal review

Share

·       KPMG Australia has mutually agreed with the federal government to stop bidding on new Commonwealth contracts until Sept. 30.

·       The freeze halts new contract revenues for the firm but excludes existing agreements, proposals submitted before June 16, and proprietary product licensing.

·       The Department of Finance will use the pause to execute an independent review into the professional services firm's internal governance, culture, ethics, and integrity frameworks.

The Australian Department of Finance announced that KPMG Australia has agreed to temporarily cease all new contract engagements with Commonwealth entities until Sept. 30 while an independent review is conducted into the firm's governance and ethics.

The sudden pause marks a major shift from previous years when the firm operated as a primary supplier of consulting and advisory services to the Australian government.

The Department of Finance stated that the upcoming review will evaluate the firm's overarching culture, integrity frameworks, and ethical standards.

Under the terms of the agreement, government agencies must still assess supplier ethics on pre-existing contracts and retain the right to demand the removal of specific personnel linked to the ongoing investigation.

The independent probe follows broader federal scrutiny regarding how private consulting firms handle confidential government information and client conflicts of interest.

The Commonwealth stated that the findings of the review will help determine the firm's long-term commercial eligibility and overall value-for-money position across future federal procurement panels.
