Australia batter Usman Khawaja said he continues to face racial stereotypes as he announced his retirement from international cricket.
The 39-year-old will play his final Test in the Ashes finale against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Khawaja said criticism he faced earlier in the series reflected unequal treatment.
The way everyone came at my preparation was quite personal.
Usman Khawaja said.
He said accusations of being lazy and selfish echoed stereotypes he has encountered throughout his life.
Khawaja became the first Muslim to represent Australia after debuting against England in 2011.
I’m a proud Muslim, coloured boy from Pakistan who was told he’d never play for Australia.
