Ionic Rare Earths (ASX:IXR) has appointed Sean Sargent as COO for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to drive the development of its rare earth permanent magnet recycling facility in Belfast.
The move follows an increasing global focus on securing rare earth supply chains outside of China, contrasting with traditional supply routes that rely heavily on single-market sourcing.
"Sean's appointment is the first of several key executive appointments the company will be making in the UK in the near term as we rapidly expand our presence in the UK market," said Ionic Rare Earths Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tim Harrison.
Sargent brings 25 years of engineering experience across the nuclear and defence industries, having previously managed major energy projects valued at approximately $29 billion.
Following the announcement, the Ionic Rare Earths share price was unchanged at $0.01.
The Belfast facility operated by the company is designed to produce recycled, individually separated magnet rare earth oxides to serve advanced manufacturing and renewables sectors.
The broader corporate strategy includes ongoing international expansion plans across Europe, North America, and South America to commercialise its patented separation and refining technology.
