  • Inghams Group expanded farm lockdowns across all Australian states to prevent H5N1 bird flu exposure.
  • The federal government committed $113 million to biosecurity measures and native wildlife protection.
  • The company aims to protect free-range flocks and maintain stable supply chains for food staples.

Poultry producer Inghams (ASX:ING) has expanded preventative farm lockdowns to all Australian states following the spread of the H5N1 bird flu virus among native wildlife species.

The federal government responded by allocating $113 million towards agricultural biosecurity and wildlife protection after bird flu cases were identified in native birds like terns and seagulls.

We are being realistic that we have seen spillover events globally,” said Agriculture Minister Julie Collins.

The expanded biosecurity protocols involve housing free-range chickens indoors, restricting non-essential personnel movements, and enforcing strict protective clothing requirements across facilities.

Following the announcement, the Ingham's share price was up at $2.12.

Inghams operates as a vertically integrated poultry producer supplying chicken and turkey meat products across Australia and New Zealand.

The company has historically managed supply chain pressures through continuous adjustments to farm management and biosecurity protocols.
