Fortescue (ASX:FMG) announced the accelerated deployment of the world's first replicable, large-scale green energy grid.

The project aims to eliminate fossil fuel dependency across its Pilbara operations, creating an integrated system comparable in scale to a city's power requirements.

By prioritising the total removal of diesel—a fuel hampered by extreme price volatility and heavy taxpayer subsidies—the company is taking direct control of its energy security and operational costs.

Unlike traditional renewable hubs that feed intermittently into national systems, Fortescue’s off-grid infrastructure is engineered for "around the clock" decarbonisation.

The company expects to reach a critical milestone by early next year, completing 290MW of renewable capacity to facilitate daytime "green processing" of iron ore.

By the end of 2028, the transition will culminate in a 2GW system capable of powering entire operations for 24-hour periods without fossil fuels.

This puts the company well ahead of its "Real Zero" 2030 targets.

The infrastructure behind this transition is staggering, featuring 1.2GW of solar capacity, over 600MW of wind generation, and a massive 4-5GWh battery storage network.

Driven by proprietary AI optimisation and in-house technology, the rollout is currently proceeding within its approved budget on an accelerated timetable.
