Flagship Minerals (ASX:FLG) announced a copper exploration target of 0.51 to 1.02 billion tonnes.

The entry into copper contrasts with the company's previous singular focus on its gold projects.

The company stated that the Whipsaw exploration target grades are between 0.2% and 0.4% copper equivalent.

The underlying porphyry mineral system spans 3.7km in length and 1.2km in width.

Following the announcement, the Flagship Minerals share price was up at $0.195.

The business continues to advance its primary asset known as the Isidora Gold Project in Chile.

The company plans to seek approvals for a potential spin-out of Whipsaw into another listed entity.
