Firebrick Pharma secures key New Zealand patent
Firebrick Pharma (ASX:FRE) said its patent covering the composition of Nasodine nasal spray has been granted in New Zealand.
The newly approved intellectual property extends the company’s proprietary formulation protection and commercial runway in the region until June 2041.
The core invention underpins Nasodine's specific formulation, which demonstrates markedly enhanced virucidal activity at clinically relevant exposure times of two and five minutes when compared directly to standard povidone-iodine solutions ranging between 0.5% and 1.0%.
The patent covers the therapeutic use of this formulation for treating viral infections, reducing mucous secretions, lowering viral load, and minimising the duration of viral presence to prevent secondary illnesses like sinusitis, bronchitis, and otitis media.
While the composition patent is already secured in Australia and South Africa, it remains pending across multiple high-value international markets, including the United States, Europe, Canada, Brazil, Israel, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
According to Firebrick Executive Chairman Dr Peter Molloy, the broad composition approval represents a pivotal asset for the Nasodine patent family, as it protects the core pharmaceutical formulation irrespective of its specific intended clinical use.
At the time of reporting, Firebrick Pharma’s share price was $0.042.
