Energy North drops timeline for remote data centre
Key points
- Startup Energy North removed its June 2028 start date for a planned remote data centre after a local regulator suspended review deadlines.
- The project developer confirmed that the timeline revision has no immediate market or stock listing reaction because the company is privately held.
- The company stated that the scheduling shift aligns with broader regulatory reviews governing artificial intelligence infrastructure across Australia.
Startup Energy North abandoned its target start date for a remote Australian data centre project after regulators paused environmental review timelines.
The developer previously listed a target launch date of June 28, 2028, in regulatory filings submitted four months prior.
"The June 2028 date in our referral was an indicative schedule at the time of lodgement, and we're no longer working to it," said Energy North vice president of project development Daniel Hunter.
The Northern Territory environmental regulator suspended its standard seven-week assessment deadline on Oct. 7 to consult with federal authorities on national artificial intelligence infrastructure policies.
The proposed facility is planned for a remote cattle ranch situated 683km away from the nearest major city.
Energy North stated that the development intends to utilise regional land and solar resources to power large-scale digital infrastructure.
