Eastern Gas finishes Venus-2H drilling encountering 445m coal

Eastern Gas (ASX:EGA) completed drilling operations and demobilisation at its Venus-2H well site, with equipment leaving the location on Sept. 1.

The horizontal appraisal well intersected Venus-1 and encountered a cumulative 445m of interpreted net Macalister Lower coal within the production wellbore.

Managing Director David Spring said, "With drilling operations complete and the final drilling equipment now off site, our focus is on the next important phase for Project Venus: dewatering and flow testing."

Dewatering and flow testing are planned to commence in mid-October, subject to final confirmation and completion of well and surface-facility preparations.

Testing will measure key operational parameters, including water production, reservoir pressure response, gas breakthrough, and gas flow performance.

Following the announcement the Eastern Gas share price was unchanged at $0.16.

The campaign forms part of Eastern Gas's strategy to evaluate coal seam gas resources and develop integrated appraisal well systems in Queensland's Surat Basin.

Prior to completing demobilisation, the company executed earlier field operations, including drilling through target coals and recording gas shows ahead of final well completion.
