Downer secures $310M Transurban contract expansion
Downer EDI (ASX:DOW) secured a major service expansion in New South Wales, capturing road maintenance and incident response contracts worth approximately $310 million.
The agreement spans up to nine years and covers Transurban’s critical Northern assets in Sydney, including the M2 Motorway, Lane Cove Tunnel, and the NorthConnex tunnel—an asset Downer has successfully maintained since 2020.
Scheduled to commence in July, the NSW Incident Response and Maintenance Services (North Region) contracts guarantee an initial seven-year term with options for two single-year extensions.
Under the expansive agreement, Downer will provide 24/7 incident response alongside comprehensive civil, mechanical, and electrical maintenance.
Teams will oversee vital infrastructure systems, managing everything from fire protection and water treatment plants to air quality monitoring and tunnel ventilation.
The deal further solidifies Downer’s existing footprint with Transurban, building upon their established partnerships managing Melbourne's CityLink and West Gate Tunnel.
Downer CEO Peter Tompkins welcomed the expansion, framing it as a major endorsement of the company's regional operations.
"Our expanded role in New South Wales reflects a strong endorsement of our asset management expertise and the consistent high-quality services delivered by our teams," Tompkins said, noting that Downer currently manages over 50,000km of road networks across Australia and New Zealand.
At the time of reporting, Downer EDI’s share price was $7.78.
