  • The matter will return to Perth District Court in August 2026 for a sentencing mention, with Bowden facing up to 15 years’ jail per offence

Former company director Trent Bowden has pleaded guilty in the Perth Magistrates Court to three charges of dishonestly using his position as director of Trent Bowden Trading Pty Ltd to gain an advantage for himself, in connection with more than $1.5 million of investor funds.

The charges relate to alleged conduct between March 2019 and November 2023, during which Bowden is said to have attracted investor money by stating it would be invested, mainly through foreign exchange trading, in circumstances where investors were relying on him to manage their funds appropriately.

“Mr Bowden pleaded guilty to three offences contrary to section 184(2)(a) of the Corporations Act 2001,” said the prosecution.

Authorities allege that instead of deploying the funds as represented, Bowden accessed and used investor money for personal expenses, payments to other investors and other non‑trading purposes, raising concerns about misuse of director powers and investor protection in small trading schemes.

Each offence carries a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment, and the case highlights how breaches of directors’ duties under the Corporations Act can attract significant custodial exposure when investor money is misapplied.

Following the announcement, Trent Bowden Trading Pty Ltd remains a privately held entity, and any implications for investors’ potential recovery are expected to be addressed through separate civil, insolvency or compensation processes.

The matter is being prosecuted by the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and is next listed in the Perth District Court on 21 August 2026 for a sentence mention, where the court will consider the facts and any submissions before setting a sentencing timetable.
