Databricks to spend $300M on ANZ expansion
Databricks has announced a US$300 million investment in Australia and New Zealand over three years to expand its regional presence, workforce, and AI capabilities.
The investment follows more than 85% year-on-year growth in the region during the first quarter, driven by rising enterprise demand for data infrastructure and AI deployment.
“We’re seeing a clear shift from AI experimentation to impact across ANZ enterprises,” said Databricks Vice President and Country Manager, Adam Beavis.
As part of the expansion, the company will open a 22,000-square-foot headquarters in Sydney, significantly increasing its footprint and supporting a growing workforce with dedicated training facilities.
Databricks is also scaling adoption of its AI products, including Lakebase, Genie and Agent Bricks, across industries such as finance, energy and the public sector, with clients including Atlassian, National Australia Bank and Telstra.
The company said it will train 100,000 people across ANZ in data and AI skills through programmes including bootcamps, hackathons and enterprise training initiatives aligned with Australia’s National AI Plan.
The expansion underscores Databricks’ broader strategy to capitalise on accelerating enterprise AI adoption while building long-term infrastructure and talent pipelines in key global markets.
