Canadian Phosphate acquires major US project
Australian-listed Canadian Phosphate (ASX:CP8) executed a definitive binding agreement to acquire a 100% interest in the highly advanced Diamond Mountain Phosphate Project located in Utah, USA, from vendors Revival Gold and Utah Minerals Resources.
Situated within a premier, tier-one mining jurisdiction on state-owned land, the asset is positioned approximately 35km northeast of Vernal, directly adjacent to Simplot’s robust 4-million-tonnes-per-annum Vernal Phosphate Mine.
The transaction positions the Perth-headquartered developer as a major emerging player in the North American critical minerals sector, perfectly aligning its commercial pipeline with escalating global agricultural and food security demands.
The premier Diamond Mountain Project features a substantial foreign resource estimate under NI 43-101 regulations, boasting 26.8 million tonnes of measured and indicated resources alongside 23.1 million tonnes of inferred resources, averaging 19.67% phosphorus pentoxide within a thick, laterally continuous 4.4-metre seam.
Although not yet reported in strict accordance with the Australian JORC Code, the asset benefits from exceptional existing infrastructure and supportive local regulatory frameworks that promise significant ongoing exploration upside.
Highlighting the transaction's profound strategic value, Canadian Phosphate CEO Daniel Gleeson commented that the acquisition represents a material step forward in accelerating the company's vision to establish a highly reliable, vertically integrated, mine-to-market North American business.
