Botala Energy begins testing key 70GJ well
- Botala Energy has advanced its Pitse Pilot well 3.5B into commercial production testing in Botswana.
- Following the announcement, Botala Energy shares fell 10.2% to $0.044.
- The company aims to sustain gas output above 70 gigajoules per day to support its Phase 2 mini-LNG feasibility study.
Botala Energy (ASX:BTE) has moved its Pitse Pilot well 3.5B into commercial production testing after completing hydraulic stimulation at its Serowe coal bed methane project in Botswana.
The testing aims to demonstrate output above an internal benchmark of 70 gigajoules per day, compared to a nearby analogue well that previously sustained 120 gigajoules daily.
“The next stage is straightforward in its objective—we must progressively reduce reservoir pressure, bring gas into the well, and determine how much the well can produce,” said Botala Energy CEO Kris Martinick.
Crews conducted the stimulation over 1.5 hours using 2,200 barrels of fluid and 43.5 tonnes of sand, with the company recovering about 30% of the injected fluid during flowback.
Following the announcement, the Botala Energy share price was down at $0.044.
Data from Well 3.5B will help guide future well design, reserves certification, and planning for the company's regional gas strategy.
The Pitse Pilot serves as the first stage of a proposed six-well cluster designed to underpin a feasibility study for an initial 108-well development producing 3.5 petajoules of LNG annually.
